Postnatal care and recovery support
A postnatal check-up with a Women's Health Physiotherapist is recommended around 6weeks after birth, regardless of how your baby was delivered.
This is a vital opportunity to reflect on how pregnancy, birth and early motherhood have impacted your body and support optimal recovery postpartum. It’s a safe space to talk through any concerns, pain or challenges that you’re facing and regain confidence as you return to everyday activities. Early identification of any issues allows for timely, effective care.
During your appointment, your Women’s Health Physiotherapist will:
Discuss your pregnancy, birth and any concerns you may have
Talk through your pelvic health and overall wellbeing
Explore your goals for returning to activity or exercise
Assess your posture, breathing and movement
With your consent, check for abdominal separation (diastasis recti) and assess any Caesarean scar (if appropriate)
With your consent, perform an internal examination to assess perineal tears, pelvic floor strength, vaginal and vulval tissue health, and check for signs of prolapse.

What to expect from your consultation
During your consultation, your therapist will take a thorough history and conduct a detailed assessment which may include a pelvic floor internal examination—if you're comfortable with it. We'll explain our findings and work with you to develop an individualised treatment plan.
Treatment may include joint and soft tissue therapy, scar massage, pelvic floor rehabilitation, musculoskeletal exercise programs, biofeedback, electrical stimulation and education to help you understand what's happening and how to best support your body.
We create a supportive, caring environment where you can feel comfortable discussing sensitive concerns. If you have any questions before booking, we’re happy to chat with you over the phone.
No referral is needed but an initial consultation is required so we can understand your needs. Call our friendly team at Currimundi on 07 5337 9853 or Forest Glen on 07 5391 4929 to find out more.
